What is the Lazarus Island?
Lazarus Island, also known as Pulau Sekijang Pelepah, is a small island in Singapore’s Southern Islands connected to St John’s Island by a causeway. Lazarus island is rich with beautiful nature. Many travellers visit Lazarus Island daily to enjoy the clean, white, and sandy beach on the C-shaped lagoon. It’s also known as one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets and one of the country’s neglected islands.
A causeway connects Lazarus Island to St John’s Island, making it accessible with a 15-minute stroll. Beachgoers and families who want to spend quality time with their loved ones go to Lazarus Island.
The History of Lazarus Island
On Lazarus Island in the late 1800s, there were many prison confinement huts, but they abandoned it when a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment on the island escaped. A wildfire in 1902 burned all of the confinement sheds, and another large fire in 1914 killed all of the vegetation.

Explore Flora and Fauna
The St. John’s Island path is 2.8 kilometres long and has 15 stops where visitors may learn about the local flora and animals. The walk takes you across the island’s diverse biodiversity from mangroves to coastal forests and even some of Singapore’s Heritage Trees.
Keep an eye out for the island’s unusual creatures, such as the native Brahminy Kite flying above or the Gold-ringed Cat Snake if you’re lucky!

- The causeway
The causeway is a great picture opportunity. However, several spots around the causeway are as impressive! The breakwaters along the causeway, for example, are a must-see. Together with the seas and the forest across the way, the rocks make for an Instagram-worthy scene.
- Woody area of Lazarus Island
The beach is beautiful in and of itself. However, right off Lazarus Beach is a nature walk that few people visit. It’s a pleasant change of pace from the heat and the crowded beach. You also get the ideal lighting for photography since the trees screen the sun.
- Pulau Seringat
A lengthy pavement runs behind Lazarus Beach and leads to a jetty. Following the trail will bring you to the island’s northernmost point. Take a photo along the wooden rails, or go higher for a beautiful view of our city’s skyline.
Meet the cats!
Lazarus Island’s indigenous cats are another highlight. These sociable felines frequent Lazarus Pier and like mingling with people.
We only spotted one cat the whole time we were at St. John’s, although it has historically been renowned as cat island. It’s unclear if Lazarus’ four cats crossed the causeway from St. John’s Island, but we now know where to look for them!
Stay overnight on a Yacht
Few people are aware that there were plans to develop Lazarus Island into a beach resort. Those intentions, however, never materialized.
On the plus side, the island’s natural beauty and charm have been preserved by keeping it less commercialized. Yacht booking Singapore is where people go to book their yacht as yacht rental Singapore is extremely competitive among many companies.
This adventure begins at 3 p.m. to escape the hot afternoon sun. Paddleboard or kayak to the beach once you’ve docked at Lazarus Beach. After that, you may either relax on the beach or continue exploring till the sunsets. Stay up on the deck of your private yacht as night falls to stargaze before retiring to your comfortable air-conditioned accommodation on board.
How much does it cost to go to Lazarus Island?
Adults pay $15 for a round-trip boat ride, while children pay $12. (age 1 to 12). For direct ferry, Purchase your tickets at Singapore Island Cruise and Ferry Services, which is located directly above Marina South Pier Terminal Exit B (MRT), after you arrive at the pier.
The ticketing counter is open every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., so get there early to get your tickets.
It takes around 20–30 minutes to reach St John’s Island via the Marina South ferry. After landing on St. John’s Island, cross the link bridge to Lazarus Island, which is only a 10-minute walk away!
